What is electromagnetic radiation (EMR)?

Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) is a type of energy with a combination of both electric and magnetic fields. Energy moves away from the source of the radiation through charged particles as they travel through space.

What are electromagnetic waves?

Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) travels in the same way as a wave therefore it is sometimes referred to as “electro-magnetic waves”.

What happens to the energy that the wave is carrying?

When the electromagnetic waves reach a human body the energy is transferred inside our bodies where it may cause harmful effects. This is why people are concerned about the effect of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) on the human body.

What is frequency and wavelength?

The wavelength is the distance between the peak of one wave and the peak of the next wave. The frequency is the number of waves per unit in time and is measured in Hertz (Hz) which is the number of cycles per second. Electromagnetic fields are described as low, intermediate or high frequency.

Do frequency and wavelength matter?

Yes, they are important because the frequency of the wave controls what the effect on the human body will be.

What is the electromagnetic spectrum?

Different types of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) have different wavelengths and frequencies. Electromagnetic waves in order of wavelength are called the electromagnetic spectrum, which is the range or spread of electromagnetic radiation (EMR).

What are the different types of electromagnetic radiation (EMR)?

Radio waves have the longest wavelength (and lowest frequency), followed by microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet light, X-rays and gamma rays. Gamma rays have the shortest wavelength and highest frequency.

Does electromagnetic radiation (EMR) occur naturally?

Yes, electromagnetic radiation (EMR) is both natural and man-made. The earth has its own magnetic field. If it were not for the visible light and infrared radiation from the sun, life on earth would not be possible

What are the man-made sources of electromagnetic radiation (EMR)?

Over the last 100 years, humans have increasingly used electromagnetic radiation (EMR) for a wide variety of applications and so humans are more exposed to electromagnetic radiation (EMR) now than at any other point in our history.

Whenever we plug in an electric appliance, for example a hairdryer, an electric field is created in the area surrounding the hairdryer because particles in the air become charged. The higher the voltage, the stronger the field. There will be an electric field even if the appliance is not turned on!

When current is flowing to the hairdryer (i.e. when it is turned on) there will also be a magnetic field. The greater the current, the stronger the magnetic field. Once the hairdryer is unplugged the magnetic field disappears but it is still present in all the cables behind the walls.

Do all electrical appliances emit electromagnetic radiation (EMR)?

Yes and the list of electrical appliances within the home is endless.

You may be surprised by the number of electrical items that we are exposed to in our everyday lives. Some are described below while others are listed in the following table.

Mobile phones

EMR can penetrate 2cm into the adult brain but can penetrate even further in children. Roger Coghill (a specialist in bioelectromagnetics, who runs an independent laboratory in Gwent) studied mobile phone users and found that around 40% of people complained of headaches and then of feeling extremely tired.

Their reaction times also started to fall off. After 14 months to two years he reported some users will start to develop leukaemia. His research has also showed that a seven-and-a-half hour exposure to a mobile phone on stand-by (turned on but not speaking) caused a serious degradation of the white blood cells (the cells that fight disease).

Hands free sets and bluetooth

These are a particular problem because they conduct radiation directly to the head. (Dr Richard Coghill). They may make the cells in our brains behave differently.

Laptops

Scientists are starting to investigate the health effects of the use of laptops especially on children who are more sensitive to EMR. Some possible health effects include headaches, eye problems and a loss of fertility in men.

WI-FI routers

Many people now have Wi-fi in their homes so that appliances like laptops can access the internet from all over the house. Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) is all over house whenever router turned on.

What about battery operated appliances?

Battery operated electrical appliances, for example a torch, have a direct current (DC). This means that electric current flows in one direction, from the battery to the bulb and then back to battery in a circle or loop. This creates a static magnetic field.

In contrast, when you plug an appliance into the mains electricity, you are using an alternating current (AC). Here, the current reverses direction at regular intervals. This produces a time varying electromagnetic field. This means that the direction of the field swaps back and fore.

What other types of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) are we exposed to?

Other appliances emit different types of electromagnetic radiation (EMR). These include radios and TV’s, computer monitors, Wi-Fi routers, cordless telephones, microwave ovens, mobile telephones and bluetooth devices.

What is electromagnetic radiation (EMR) measured in?

There are a few ways of measuring the strength of electromagnetic radiation (EMR). Magnetic fields are measured in both milliGauss (mG) and microtesla.

1 microtesla is the same as 10 milligauss.

Electric fields are measured in Volts per metre (V/m).

Human exposure is often measured in Watts per square metre (W/m2).

Are there safe limits for exposure to electromagnetic radiation (EMR)?

Each country sets its own safety limits for exposure. The limits are complex because each frequency has to have its own limit. As you move further away from an appliance, the strength of the electromagnetic radiation (EMR) decreases. Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) can pass through walls.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s safety standard for long term exposure is 1 milligauss.

What is a person exposed to in their own home?

The strength of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted from appliances varies between makes and brands. The following table gives a general idea of levels given off by common household appliances.

(http://nepis.epa.gov and http://www.emwatch.com/Typical_mG.htm)

In recent years there has been a growing amount of research performed into the effects of mobile phone radiation – and the results are starting to worry a lot of people. It is becoming more and more apparent that there may indeed be some associated health issues with long term exposure to EMR – electromagnetic radiation – brough about by our ever increasing exposure to electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets and even wi-fi enabled printers. The long term effects of this exposure are not fully understood but, if you read this article you will begin to see why so many health experts and respected research bodies are starting to raise the levels of concern.

How does electromagnetic radiation (EMR) affect our bodies?

When Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) enters our bodies it can cause circulating currents which may stimulate nerves, muscles and act in other manners to affect the way in which our bodies work. For example, research has shown that there is sometimes a slight heating effect on the body, and long term exposure could cause detrimental health effects. In recent years, as concern over the possible effects of mobile phone radiation has increased, more and more scientists are investigating whether electromagnetic radiation (EMR) can:

There is little doubt that EMR does affect our bodies, the big question is, does it affect our health?

What are the health effects that could be caused?

The list of possible associated health issues can be quite frightening. For example, consider the following list:

HeadHeadaches,  Brain tumour, Changes to brain cells, Hair loss, Cataracts.

EmotionsAnxiety, Suicide, Depression, Loss of sex drive, Tiredness.

Other parts of the body : Nausea, Cancer, Skin changes, Muscle aches and pains, Sperm abnormalities (infertility), High blood pressure, Miscarriage

Although the evidence is still hotly disputed, we really believe that, given the element of doubt, the small investment involved in a RadBlock – currently around the £20 mark – is a great way to safeguard your health and the health of your family against the potentially harmful effects of mobile phone radiation.

What is the scientific evidence support this?

As mentioned above, there is now a growing body of evidence to support the notion that mobile phone radiation can have detrimental effects on our health, especially given today’s high exposure rates and the proliferation of mobile and wi-fi enabled devices throughout our everyday lives. The experts and organisations listed in the following table are just some to have major concerns about the safety of human exposure to electromagnetic radiation (EMR).

What research has been carried out into mobile phones?

One of the most influential groups to study the effects of EMR on our health is a group of scientists, engineers and lawyers in the United States, called the Environmental Working Group. They have carried out testing of a large number (hundreds) of mobile phones that are currently available on the market today. Here are just some of their findings:

  • The LG Quantum was found to have the lowest EMR (0.35 W/kg).
  • Apple iphone had 1.17 W/kg.
  • Blackberry Curve had 1.28 W/kg.

A complete list is available at: http://www.ewg.org/cellphoneradiation/Get-a-Safer-Phone?allavailable=1.

What about the evidence that says that electromagnetic radiation (EMR) is safe?

As you can imagine, with many large corporations having a vested interest in this debate, many questions have been raised about the validity of the research and the motivation of the people who conducted it. For example, it has been alleged that some research has been funded by mobile phone companies (Dr George Carlo (Public Health Scientist), Dr Magda Havas (Associate Professor of Environmental & Resource Studies at Trent University). Whether or not this research can truly be considered impartial is, natuarally, a matter for debate in itself. However, we would, once again, urge you not to potentially place your health in danger, especially when low-copst solutions to the problem, such as Radblock, are available.

Media reports of the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation (EMR).

A quick glance through todays media also reveals a lot of interest in the topic of mobile phone radiation. There are many media reports of the health effects of electromagnetic radiation (EMR); here are some examples:

Electromagnetic fields ‘raise suicide risk

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/677256.stm

With new evidence on the dangers of mobile phones, we examine the worrying risks you’re NOT being told about

As you can see, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that the effects of mobile phone radiation, especially over  the long term, can have a detrimental effect on our health. We, therefore urge you to fit a Radblock in order to reduce the harmful effects of EMR and safeguard your health for a very low cost.

WHAT IS A RADIATION SHIELD?

Mobile phone radiation shields – also called radiation blockers – are products that are specially designed to absorb the EMR (ElectroMagnetic Radiation) which is often emitted from Mobile phones, Laptops, Tablets, Computers, Wifi Routers, Microwaves and other Electronic Products.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The main benefit is, of course, to your health. EMR is thought to have long term adverse effects on our health – you can read more about these here – but by simply fitting a radiation shield to your mobile phone you can significantly reduce your exposure to the dangers. The Radblock  Radiation Shield is easy to install, lightweight, unobstrusive and can be concealed inside the mobile phone or concealed under a cover. Its also very affordable and guaranteed for the lifetime of your device.

HOW IT CAN HELP YOU?

It cuts the SAR – Specific Absorption Rate – of  ElectroMagnetic Radiation emitted from most electronic products by an incredible 97%. EMR has been shown to cause headaches and it creates a heating effect on the head itself which leads to  tension, stress, sleep loss, hair loss and other associated health issues. By fitting a Radblock Radiation Shield you can help protect your own health as well as the health of your family members, your employees or, indeed, anyone who uses mobile phones on a regular basis.  It has recently been esitmated that  the average 16-year-old now uses a cell phone for up to 2500 minutes per month, so its not hard to see why fitting a RadBlock is now essential for most families.

WONT IT BE BIG AND BULKY?

Absolutely not. The Radblock Radiation Shield is smooth in texture and made with composite materials which gives it a high quality, shiny appearance. Our radiation shield is very thin and discreet, measuring just 48mm x 25mm, and is only  0.2mm deep. On most devices, the Radblock can be fitted directly to the battery (not on the iPhone unfortunately) keeping it completely out of sight.

DOES IT REALLY WORK?

We have proven this fact under controlled laboratory conditions in a scientifically recognised facility in Germany. Radblock is engineered using materials and technology which have been proven to significantly reduce the effects of EMR across a range of test subjects and electronic devices. In recent tests, we achieved a reduction of 97.04% in specific absorption rate with some devices testing at almost 100% reduction. So, yes, it works!

PATENT PROTECTED

The Radblock Radiation Shield is protected by a patent which makes it unique in the marketplace. Beware of imitations and insist on a genuine RadBlock product.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The Radblock Mobile Phone Radiation Shield is so simple that even a child can use it! The radiation shield has a small strip of sticky paper on the back. Simply remove the protective backing and then attach the Radblock to your device’s battery or near to the power supply of your electronic product. Once attached the RadBlock will stay in place for years, providing constant protection from the potentially harmful effects of EMR.

This is a unique product specially made to absorb radiation which maybe emitted from Mobile phones, laptops, tablets, computers, wifi routers, microwaves and other electronic products.

Benefits

The Radiation Absorber is easy to install. It is light in weight and can be concealed inside themobile phone or concealed under a cover.

How can Radblock Radiation Absorbers help me?
